Inheritance Tax
Definition
A tax on the assets you wish to pass to other family members, other than your spouse or civil partner, on your death.
The tax rate is currently 40% of your estate, after allowing for the first £285,000 of assets.
That can lead to a tax liability of £46,000 on a joint estate of £400,000 or £100,000 on a joint estate of £550,000 being payable to HM Revenue & Customs by the family where no action has been taken. Your estate includes the value inherent in the home.
There is also a possibility of a 20% charge during your lifetime on transfers depending on circumstances.
We are able to advise both the Professional Advisor or the Individual in ways of mitigating the inheritance tax charged.
